Drive Medical Basic Powerchair Repair and Troubleshooting

Here are a few tips below that may save you time and money to try before calling AP Scooter Repair at 904.551.4926.

 

When operating your power wheelchair, you may notice a flashing light on your controller when there is an issue. The flashing light indicates a malfunction. The codes are listed below. A diagnostic flash code can be displayed in one of two ways:

​

A small wrench will flash under the horn button a certain number of times indicating the diagnostic code.

​

The number of battery gauge lights flashing indicates the diagnostic code.

 

Please refer to the information below for flash codes, description of problem, and recommended actions.

Flash Code: 1

Description: User Fault

Recommended Action: Power off the power wheelchair, let rest for 15 minutes, and power on.

​

Flash Code: 2

Description: Battery Fault

Recommended Action: Charge batteries. Check battery cables and connections.

 

Flash Code: 3

Description: Left Motor Fault

Recommended Action: Check left motor cables and connections are not loose or damaged.

Description: Right Motor Fault

Recommended Action: Check right motor cables and connections are not loose or damaged.

Flash Code: 5

Description: Left Park Brake Fault

Recommended Action: Put freewheel lever in "drive" mode. Check left parking brake cables and connections

​

Flash Code: 6

Description: Right Park Brake Fault

Recommended Action: Put freewheel lever in "drive" mode. Check right parking brake cables and connections.

​

Flash Code: 7

Description: Joystick Fault

Recommended Action: Turn power off and then back on. Check battery voltage.

Check joystick connections are not loose. Contact AP Scooter Repair at 302.516.7186 (Hours M-F 9AM -5PM, EST)

Flash Code: 8

Description: Power Module Fault

Recommended Action: Check battery voltage. Check connections are not loose or damaged going to the joystick and power module. Contact AP Scooter Repair at 302.516.7186 (Hours M-F 9AM -5PM, EST)

Flash Code: 9

Description: Communications Fault

Recommended Action: Check battery voltage. Check connections are not loose or damaged going to the joystick and power module. Contact AP Scooter Repair at 302.516.7186 (Hours M-F 9AM -5PM, EST)

Flash Code: 10

Description: Unknown Fault

Recommended ActionContact AP Scooter Repair at 302.516.7186 (Hours M-F 9AM -5PM, EST)

​

Once the recommended action is taken, turn the power wheelchair off and then back

on again to clear the flash code. If the problem was not corrected, or another problem

exists the controller may display another flash code. 

​
